General Standing League Rules and Guidelines

I. League Meeting

League Meeting is held the second Tuesday of April at 6:30 PM

League starting date will be announced at the April meeting

All dues must be paid by Friday of the first week of play.  If your dues are not paid, you will forfeit all your individual and team total points up to the point at which they are paid.

II.  Golf

The league will alternate between the front and back nine of Riverside and Lakeside.  Juniper Hill GC will determine the side of play each week.

Tee-times start at 4:12 PM unless otherwise changed by Juniper Hill GC.  If you are going to be late or cannot make it for your match, it is mandatory to notify your partner, your opponent or leave a message at the clubhouse.  There is no excuse for not having the courtesy to get a message to the group that is waiting for you.

In the event you know you will not make a match in advance, it is your responsibility to secure a substitute player and notify your partner.  Sub lists are posted in the clubhouse and on the web site.  Any sub can play for an A or B player

Handicaps will be revised every three weeks

III.  Match Points

Match Points begin the first week of play

Total Points per Match: 8 pts

2 Points for holes 1-3; (1 point for A match 1 point for B match)

2 Points for holes 4-6; (1 point for A match 1 point for B match)

2 Points for holes 7-9; (1 point for A match 1 point for B match)

2 Points for Total: Calculated by combining A&B totals for each team less the net  difference in total team handicaps.  In the event of a tie, each team receives 1 point.

Position night will have total worth 3 points.

IV.  Golf Rules

USGA and Juniper Hill local rules govern play.  The following Gillis-Gauvin local rules should be followed.

Preferred lies in your own fairway

No Preferred lies in the rough or another fairway

Ball against a fence or boundary:  If your ball rests against a fence/boundary that is part of the course you are playing, you will be allowed a free one-club drop.  If your ball rests against a boundary fence from the other course you may move your ball one club with a one-stroke penalty.

Hole-1 Lakeside: The line of white stakes in front of the stonewall is to be consider the out-of –bounds line.

Hole-2 Lakeside: The stonewall on the left is not considered out-of- bounds

Hole-8 Lakeside: The B player has the option of re-teeing from the ladies tee if the first tee-ball lands in the marsh area.

Hole(s)- 8&9 Riverside:  Balls lost in the fairway due to water are not to be counted as a penalty.  Consult your opponent for the drop area to re-hit from.

Zompetti Rule:  If you pick up your ball while it is in play and do not finish a hole, your team will forfeit total for that match

Any player having a question during the round is to check with your opponents for a ruling.  If an agreement cannot be made you must finish the hole and the round.  The question should be brought to the rules committee immediately after completing the round.

Playoff Sub Rule:  If during the playoffs a team needs a substitute  player, the substitute player will have the same handicap, (or closest to, if no exact match is available), as the person they are replacing.  The substitute player must be a league member and come from the pool of players not playing in a playoff match.  The rule applies to either “A”, or “B” players.   Only “A’s” can substitute  for an “A” and “B’s” substitute for “B” players.

The Wicked Old Guys rule:  When a league member or substitute player is in his 70th year or beyond, they have the option to hit from the designated league’s tees or from the senior’s tees, for all Gillis Gauvin League and tournament play.  This must be decided on the first night of play or the first time a player (substitute) tees it up in league play.  Once the player chooses which tee box they will use, that is the tee box that will be in play for that player for the entire year.  You can not switch back and forth!

VI.  Cancellations

The President and/or the Vice-President will determine league Cancellations.  No make matches will be allowed in the event of a rain out.  They will be scheduled at the end of the season.  It is recommended that 3 weeks be left open before the final Position night to facilitate any cancellations.  If a rain or lightening storm occurs during play, ½ of the league matches must finish their entire match for the league to count.  Teams leaving the course before finishing 9 holes may only receive points they have earned for match play.  In these cases no team can earn points for total or points for a partial 3-hole match.

VII.  Play Day

Members who cannot make play-day forfeit their dues.  A substitute player will be asked to play in their place.  Subs will be chosen based on the number of rounds they played that season.  As a courtesy, the substitute player should reimburse the member for the cost of play-day.

The President and Vice-President will choose the Play-day committee for the next season.  It is recommended the play-day committee start in January of the next year to reserve a course.  Play-day should be booked for the Saturday following Championship Friday.

The past Presidents and Vice-Presidents do not have to serve on a Play-Day Committee.

VIII.  Former Members

Members in the league who have had to leave for various reasons have first preference to re-join the league if within two (2) seasons.  If an opening does not exist for them to get back in the league and they have requested to re-join, they will maintain first preference.  In the event they were offered to re-join within the two (2) years and they decline, but at a later date decide to re-join, their name will be placed at the bottom of the wait list.  Members’ sons will have second preference after the above rule. If no prior member wishes to join when the league has an opening, a members’ son can join the league.  If there is an opening and no prior member, or member’s son wants to join, then the league will turn to the sub list for new members.  Subs who have consistently continued to play in the league will maintain first preference.  In the event two or more subs have been playing in the league for the same amount of years, the sub that has played the most rounds in the previous year will receive first preference.   The list of former league members will be kept by the president.
